The secret of good and successful wind ensemble music?
It's a question of ability – not taste.

Seminars for Concert bands and Wind bands

Blasinstrumente vor HimmelIn order to do justice to everyone, let me emphasize one thing:

Let us discuss together how such a seminar should be designed, implemented and funded.

There are two possible alternatives to organise the seminars:

● For individual musicians or groups of musicians at a fixed place and at fixed dates
● For wind bands and church brass ensembles by appointment at their own location

Seminar B1:
New Program – old problems?

Suitable for young people and adults from concert bands and wind bands

The situation:
“I have my routine, I know all the pieces and my voice. But when the conductor comes with a new program, I get the feeling that I am pushed beyond my limits. Is there a way to solve this recurring problem once and for all?”

The seminar contents:
Yes – with this seminar. In addition to working with sheet music and a detailed analysis of the problem, the focus of this seminar will be on the right techniques of embouchure and breathing. This is supplemented by all the necessary hints and tricks and immediately put into practice so that one can reach the target: A new piece of music should not provide a discomfort any longer.

The seminar modules:
warm-up – instrument care – finishing sessions – techniques of embouchure – breathing technique – articulation – dynamics – rhythm – tone shaping and quality – more skilful practicing – analysing sheet music – hints and tricks – interplay and aural training/tuning

Seminar dates/Seminar place:
on demand

Seminar costs:
€ 50 p.p. (for young people up to 21 years)
€ 75 p.p. (for adults) including soft drinks and biscuits

Seminar B2:
Modern pieces, modern rhythms – how can you learn it?

Suitable for young people and adults from concert bands and wind bands

The situation:
„Traditional wind band music is not a problem for me. However, the more recent adaptations and pieces do have their pitfalls. The rhythms especially vary a great deal which can confuse me."

The Seminar contents:
The focal point of this seminar is on how to cope elegantly with the challenge of new pieces and how to expand one’s existing capabilities. A detailed “decryption” of the rhythms is followed up by intensive teaching of how and why proper articulation makes it easier to play. And from then on, any modern piece can be played with a smile.

Hugo Loosveld Portrait 1

Before I start:
I am well aware that concert bands, wind bands and church brass ensembles (Posaunenchor) are not rich. They seldom ask members for contributions. Paying for seminars is new to them since their sponsors, for example the fire departments or the church, often provide all the material they need.

Therefore, the first item on my agenda is always to provide advice on how such a seminar should be designed, implemented and funded so that all parties involved will be satisfied.
